Kroger Gift Card Fundraiser

Attention HHS Band Parents!

We have an exciting fundraising opportunity available. The Hanover High School Band Boosters has joined the Kroger Cares program. This program provides an easy way for you to earn funds for the general band accounts by using “reloadable” gift cards to pay for groceries, gas, prescriptions, stamps, and other gift cards at any Kroger store, at no additional cost to you!!

Here’s how the Kroger Cares program works:

1.   You purchase a special Kroger gift card from the Band Boosters for $5

2.   The initial value of the gift card is $5, and it can be redeemed at any Kroger store. You can reload your card with additional money up to $500, and use it over and over again to buy groceries, gas, stamps, prescriptions, and other gift cards.

3.   Every time you reload your card, Kroger donates 5% of the reload value to the band! For example, if you reload the card for $100, the band receives a $5 donation. It is important to note that the gift card is still worth $100 at any Kroger store; the Kroger donation costs you nothing.

4.   You can reload your gift card at the Kroger Customer Service desk, or at the register. Many people find it convenient to reload the card at the service desk as they enter the store, then you are guaranteed that the card is ready to use to pay for purchases at check out (it takes about 5 to 10 minutes for the gift card to be updated). You can use a credit card, cash, or check to reload the card, so you can still rack up those credit/debit card points!

5.   Kroger keeps track of the amounts reloaded onto gift cards tied to the HHS band organization. They send us a report each month showing how much each card earned, along with a donation for 5% of the total amount reloaded onto our cards, provided the cards tied to our account are reloaded for a total of $5000 or more. If we don't reach $5000 in a certain month, the amount rolls into the next month.

Unlike many other fundraisers associated with retail, this program operates year-round, so you can continue to contribute to bands' account throughout the summer. Only Kroger gift cards purchased through the HHS Band Boosters can be linked to our organization, so make sure you get your cards directly from us.

Below are some Frequently Asked Questions about this program. Please email Cindy Parcell at chparc@comcast.net with any additional questions.

Kroger Cares program FAQs:

Am I required to have a Kroger Plus Card also? No, you are not required to have Kroger Plus Card to participate in this program.

If I get a discount with my Kroger Plus Card, will I receive this discount when I reload the card? You cannot receive any type of discount when you reload your gift card, but you will continue to earn those same discounts on the groceries that you buy using your gift card.

I use my Kroger Plus Card to earn discounts on gas. Can I earn such discounts by spending money to reload my card? You will not earn credit for discounts on the amount you spend to reload your gift card, but you will continue to earn gas discounts when you make purchases using your gift card.

Will I continue to receive Kroger coupons in the mail? This program should not change any bonus programs that you currently enjoy at Kroger.

Can I use my gift card to buy anything that Kroger sells? Your gift card can be used for any thing that Kroger sells, including gasoline, stamps, items from the pharmacy, or other gift cards.

How will I know what the balance is on my gift card? Each time you use your gift card, you will receive a receipt listing the remaining balance on the card. If you know your card number (printed on the back of the card) you can call the 800 number (also on the back of the card) to inquire about your balance.

What do I do when the balance is low? Do I have to buy another card? No, don’t throw away your gift card! Simply reload the card at any register. Once you buy the initial card from HHS Band Boosters the card can be used and reused.

Is there a minimum balance that I have to maintain on the gift card? Always keep at least 1¢ on your gift card. When the balance drops to zero and the card is not reloaded for 90 days, the card will be deactivated, and you’ll have to buy a new card from the HHS Band Boosters to continue participation in the program.

What happens if my card is lost or stolen? Your Kroger gift card functions just like cash. If it is lost or stolen, anyone can use it. For this reason, you should keep a record of your gift card number along with the 800 number listed on the back of your card. If you lose your card, you can call the 800 number, and if there is still a balance on the card, Kroger will issue you a new card tied to our account.  To reduce the risk of losing a loaded gift card, many program participants choose to load their gift cards in a transaction immediately before using the cards to pay for groceries or gas.

Are family members who live out of the area able to participate?  Yes!  Great idea!  As long as they purchase a Kroger Care Card from the HHS Band Boosters (or you purchase and forward it to them), they can reload it and shop at their local store and the totals they spend will be reflected in our account monthly.

Can I buy a card for my college student (or parent) and reload it for them at my local store?  Yes.  You will need their card number when you go to the Kroger Customer Service desk.
